Yuck

Discovering new bands is so much fun. Why listen to the radio, or watch mtv and wait for some paid personality to tell you who you should like? There's an innocence that comes with a new band that hasn't been put through "The Machine" yet. Everything is fresh, new, and exciting for both the band and the listener. Every new band discovery is like two virgins coming together for that first awkward encounter.

Today I'm talking about Yuck. A band so new, they've only played a couple live shows. Consisting of members from the United States (Dirty Jersey), Japan, and U.K., the foursome is currently calling U.K. their home for now. With a sound that pays homage to bands like Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic youth, Yuck are bringing their shoegaze to the forefront of the unsigned world. Although, could we consider this nu-gaze as it combines influences from both sides of the Atlantic? Their two recorded offerings, "Georgia" and "Automatic" are obviously rough in production, but stellar in both the lyrical and technical sense. The simplicity of "Automatic" is mind-blowingly remarkable. A song that will swirl around in your mind for days after listening. A truly unforgettable song and band.
