VIDEO: The Roots - "Dear God 2.0" Featuring Jim James of My Morning Jacket

A decent music video has proven hard to come by these days. Reference all of 2010 thus far. But we've finally been presented with a video that deserves attention. Maybe it's the catchy hook, maybe the meaningful lyrical content, or maybe because Jim James actually came out for the video, but this is easily one I could watch over and over.

NEW: The Gay Blades - "Try To Understand"

The follow up album to The Gay Blades hypeworthy first release, Ghosts, will be available October 5th on Triple Crown Records. The new album, titled Savages, will feature this first single, "Try To Understand".

VIDEO: MGMT "Congratulations"

Well, just like their last video, take whatever you want from the new video for "Congratulations" from MGMT. Hey, at least it's a better song than "Flash Delirium."

They should have just paid this guy for his video, at least it makes sense.

NEW: The Ting Tings - "Hands"

The Ting Tings are back and recruited Calvin Harris to produce their newest song, "Hands", which will be featured on their upcoming album, Massage Kunst. In true Ting Tings fashion, the duo holds on to a simplistic and repetitive formula that made We Started Nothing such a success. However, this time they drop all guitars and live instruments and steer towards the straight electro pop sound. Maybe it's the Calvin Harris influence, but it sounds good.

Antoine Dodson Lands #89 Spot on Hot 100 Charts With "Bed Intruder Song"

All it took was an assault and the attempted rape of his sister for Antoine to score 15 minutes of fame and secure the unintentional comedy ringtone of the year. How many people bought this to make it #86 on the Hot 100? Is the future of the Hot 100 this doomed? In 5 years, will the Hot 100 be comprised of user-generated ringtones and commentary remixes? If Leprechaun in Alabama came out today, it would skyrocket to #1.

"Bed Intruder Song"

And in case you're unfamiliar, here's the original news story that spawned the birth of my ringtone for the next 3 months.

Cee-Lo Green - "Fuck You"

This shit is HOTT! Cee-Lo's soulful voice works perfectly with this old school motown production. Turn those speakers up to 11 and sing along. New album drops October 4th. I don't need the interwebz po' po' on me for this one, so no downloads, just watch the Youtube version below.

VIDEO: Yeasayer - "Madder Red"

Who ever thought that a song as beautiful as "Madder Red" could have a touch of humor to it? Check out the video that features a softer side of Kristen Bell and an oozing sac of fleshy limbs as the leading man in her life. Guardian has the exclusive, so check it out over there.

NEW: Kanye West - "See Me Now" Feat. Beyonce and Charlie Wilson

I promise this is the last Kanye post until his album drops November 16th. That is, unless he hijacks a presidential address to make some obscene announcement. I wouldn't put it past him.

Some classic Kanye here. I've definitely enjoyed everything I've been hearing leading up to Mr. West's new and still untitled album.

Weekend Warriors

The weekend has officially arrived and barring another apocalyptic sky terror like last night, I've got a lot going on.

Friday evening will send me on my first trip to the Jazz in the Garden series at the Sculpture Garden 5:30-8:00. Grab a blanket, bottle of wine, and some good company to watch some sweet jazz guitar. From there, it's off to someplace a little more upbeat. 80's Prom Night at Black Cat, DJ'd by D.C. staple, Lil' E. Grab your best Dumb and Dumber tux and reminisce the sounds of David Bowie, Duran Duran, and Depeche Mode.
Saturday will be an early morning as I head over to Mi Tierra Farmers Market to indulge in some mega cheap cheap hangover cures. Authentic Latin American tacos, empanadas, and pollo guisado made right in front of you for a price you'd expect to pay in Mexico, not downtown D.C.! After stuffing my face, it's time to go a little out of my way and hit FREE SWEETFLOW on 25th and Pennsylvania. They promise more than just free frozen yogurt too, so get there early! A 2pm viewing of Inception (yes, I'm the only person in the world who hasn't seen it yet) will get me out of the debilitating afternoon heat, and dinner at District ChopHouse will end my day.

While I'd like nothing more than to sip mimosas on a Sunday morning and people watch, there's too much going on! U Street Dog Days offers a massive sidewalk sale with HUGE discounts from all the independent boutiques and FREE samples from a ton of restaurants. My weekend finishes off at the American Indian museum, where they will be hosting an Iron Chef Cookoff from 3-5pm. As a culinary reality show junkie, there's no way I can miss out on 2 chefs battling head-to-head for an hour, cooking 6 dishes. While at the museum I'm going to check out the last day of the Brian Jungen exhibit. This stuff is crazy!

Two-A-Days: Eels and The Lonely Forest

I'm getting really excited for this new Eels album. Tomorrow Morning will be released August 24th on E Works. Stereogum premiered the song "Baby Loves Me" the other day, the third song we've been able to sample from the upcoming album. Listen below and check out the video for "Spectacular Girl", which follows a day in the life of a girl playing secretary by day and deadly assassin by night. Eels will be in D.C. September 26th at 9:30 Club.

The Lonely Forest hail from the Band of Horses region of the Pacific Northwest and you can easily sense the influence. Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla scooped the band up for his new label, Trans, and also produced, engineered, and mixed the their debut EP due out September 14th, with a full length to follow. The Lonely Forest will be in D.C. on October 1st at Black Cat.

The Kanye Promotion Bus Keeps On A Rollin'

First Kanye gave an a cappella performance to a room full of Facebook staffers, then went and did the same thing over at Twitter a few days later. Well now he's posted what he's not calling a video, but will call a live "portrait" or "painting". Leave it to Kanye to put a twist on a minute and a half teaser clip.

To kanye's credit, the video is shot extremely well and leaves me wanting more. So I guess it does exactly what it's supposed to do.

VIDEO: Cee-Lo Green - "No One's Gonna Love You"

Cee-Lo did an amazing job covering my all-time favorite Band of Horses songs. "No One's Gonna Love You" will be on his forthcoming album Cee-Lo Green Is The Lady Killer, due August 9th. Check out the video below:

We Won't Be Seeing These Honda Commercials In The U.S....

I want to live in Australia, where they air car commercials that make fun of Hipsters with their Polaroid pix and summer scarves. Honda is essentially making fun of hipsters, who think they're individuals, by implying that you yourself will be an individual if you buy this car. I don't get it.

One thing I DO get though, is that the version "aimed" towards the "urban community" seems a little racist. Do people consider black commercial one racist and the hipster commercial funny? Are there enough black people living in Australia to get angry about this?

NEW: Wale Mixtape "More About Nothing"

The follow-up mixtape to the 2008 release "Mixtape About Noting" dropped today. I've always been a fan of mixtape Wale. I listened to his last mixtape way more than the album. Download the new "More About Nothing" here.
