The Rich Get Richer!

Ladies and gentleman, your 2007 Major League Baseball World Champions....the Boston Red Sox! Words couldn't describe the feelings I had back in 2004 when we won it all for the first time in my life. I shed a few tears and immediately jumped in the car to make to Boston for the parade. While it was an amazing time in my life, that win was more for the parents and grandparents that spent their entire lives without a Red Sox World Series win...86 years. This time around it was for the younger generation of Red Sox Nation. As Papelbon threw strike three in the bottom of the ninth inning last night, I sat there with the best feeling of satisfaction I've ever had. No more tears to shed. This solidifies our spot at the top of the MLB chain. This 2007 Red Sox team is far superior to the team that won in 2004, and the best thing is, it looks like we'll be keeping just about the whole team for opening day next season (bye bye, Coco).

The intensity was still most certainly there this postseason. I sat up on the edge of my seat, watching the games through the spaces between my fingers covering my face. Late nights and early mornings came and went. I haven't been to a show in over 2 weeks; but it was all worth it. To show the world that we can win on the biggest stage with a bunch of 23-28 year old players leading the way in phenomenal.

Think about this, the Sox just won the World Series, the Patriots are the clear favorite to win the Super Bowl (and probably beat any NFC contender by 30), and for the first time this decade the Celtics have a legitimate shot at contending in the Eastern Conference of the NBA. College football and college hockey, although early, are New England's for the taking as well. I can't begin to express how good it feels to be a sports fan from New England. We're on top of the world right now...and all I can say is I WANT MORE. I'm flying up for the Red Sox victory parade, as I did in 2004. We did it again, Red Sox Nation, go out and celebrate!

It's been a while since I've updated and that should not be tolerated. Forgive me for the recent absence, but Vegas decided it would be a good idea to steal all of my money and point and laugh on upon my exit. Thanks, Luxor, for the $100 bar comp that left me even more depressed after losing. You sure know how to cheer a guy up!

Anyway, thanks to one of my readers for getting me obsessed, at least for this week, with East Hundred. Obviously, anytime a beautiful young woman works the vocals the way Beryl does, I fall in love and can't get enough. The perfect music for a dreary day such as today. Check them out live at The Fire on Halloween night. Just don't count me in... Me + North Philly + Halloween Night = one scared little boy. I'll wait and check them out 2 weeks later at North Star.

The reason I cancelled my subscription to Rolling Stone: Apparently a low cost of living and diversity are the reasons Philadelphia has a thriving music scene. OK guys, it's bad enough that 70% of your magazine is made up of ads and political shit; but when you start trying to correlate low rent with how music I must draw the line. Rolling Stone has been on the decline for a couple of years now. There are more gossip columns and fashion spreads than ever before and their review section is so out of whack it makes my head hurt. I'll stick to Spin and Alternative Press for my music literature from now on, thanks.

Oh Autovaughn

So rumor has it that the first unsigned band that I ever discovered and brought to labels' attentions, Autovaughn, is finishing up the details and will release their next album on a major label. I immediately fell in love with this band music the first time I heard it. Their Killers/80's throwback vibe has you up and dancing one minute and swaying melodramatically the next. I really enjoy this bands sound, as mainstream as it is. It's just pristine to hear live, with some of the best backup vocals I've ever heard. Their album "Space" was one of my top albums last year, and I'm sure that a few of the tracks will end up on their major label debut. "One More Time" is the obvious debut single, cheesy guitar solo included. I wish nothing but the best for Autovaughn.

This certain major label on the other hand....I have a bone to pick with you. I hand this band to you on a silver platter in May and you take small, although relative, interest. As an intern I tell you that if there was one band out there right now that I could sign, it would be Autovaughn. You seem to take me less than seriously when I tell you that if you don't act accordingly, someone else will. I proceed to finish interning and you go behind my back to sign these guys and cut me out completely? I know for a fact I was the first person to bring these guys to you, and had it not been for me acting early, you would have never gotten the chance to sign them. A little appreciation would be great; hell even a little fucking acknowledgement would be nice. I see how you guys work and I can guarantee that you'll be getting nothing from me in the future except maybe a swift kick in the balls.

Work has me going to Vegas tomorrow through Sunday, which should be a shit show. The legal prostitution should have my nights pretty much tied up, but I'll be on the lookout for some good local bands.
