Cover Tuesday

I've been dancing to the new Yeah Yeah Yeah's for a few hours now, so my friends decided to take some video....enjoy.

The Whipping Post- Rockin' white man syndrome since '85.

2nd YYY's Song Leaks

I can NOT wait to drop some funky white moves on the dance floor once these Yeah Yeah Yeah's songs hit the clubs. Seriously, how good are these first two songs we've heard off the upcoming It's Blitz album? By far the best music the band has created! This one's called "Heads Will Roll". April 14th.

AMAZING BABY!

Flat out.....I haven't been this excited for a new band since MGMT was signed. I got the FREE Amazing Baby EP about a week ago and it's fucking life changing. This Brooklyn-based new psych rock outfit will draw obvious comparisons to MGMT and rightfully so. Amazing Baby will take listeners on a journey through every 4-minute-epic in their arsenal. Together for just over a year now, the core duo of Will Roan and Simon O'Connor (along with a fantastic cast of rotating musicians), blend unique sounds incorporating psych, pop, rock, even folk to create music more suitable for psychedelic drugs and stereo headphones than soccer moms and the daily commute. AND I FUCKING LOVE IT. Did I mention O'Connor played with the MGMT guys while all of them attended Wesleyan? Amazing Baby will definitely make the biggest impact at SXSW this year and will without a doubt be the breakout band of the next year, if they can overcome the MGMT baby brother syndrome that everyone will surely place on them. Can't there be room at the top for both?

Get the FREE EP, entitled Infinite Fucking Cross, at the link above and check out their new song "Bayonets" below. A song which will surely be on their full-length album due out this summer. I can't just give you one, so here are two videos, an mp3, and their upcoming tour dates. See you at the Boston show!

Yeah Yeah Yeah's new single

FINALLY! A little payout after being teased so long. The first single off the new YYY's album It's Blitz! has arrived. "Zero" is something I never would have expected to hear from YYY's. Show Your Bones is one of my favorite albums of all time, but if this is the kind of music I can expect to hear all over It's Blitz! then YYY's have taken things to a whole new level. The full album hits your local laptop April 14th.

Get ready to dance...

The Whipping Post- Where we're beginning to really hate Imeem.

The Gay Blades

Remember Rock N' Roll music? Think wayyyyyy back, I know it's hard. I'm talking guitar drivin, cymbal wailing, that unforgettable rock and roll howling voice. Needless to say, Kings Of Leon are leading the revival; but The Gay Blades aren't far behind. RCRDLBL calls it Trash Pop (whatever the hell that is), I just call it damn good. I recently came across the NYC drum and guitar duo's album, Ghosts, and I'm completely immersed in rock-god-goodness. "O Shot" (video below) sounds like something off an old Blakes' album except 100 times better. Find a better rock voice in today's music world than Clark Westfield's in "O Shot" and you can take an o-shot on me. It simply wont happen. "Bob Dylan's 115th Nightmare" has so much electricity I could feel myself front and center at their future arena rock tour. If my stereo volume went to 11, it would be there listening to these guys. I need to see this band live ASAP.

Drink Up Buttercup + Kanine = Boner Alert at the Whipping Post

I've been pimping the name Drink Up Buttercup since I first caught the band live in summer '07. Back in the old Jukebox posts about these guys (and there were a lot), I never had a bad thing to say. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon after they played CMJ '08 and it sounds like they finally have the producer to take them to the next level. Like Super Furry Animals? Animal Collective? You'll LOVE Drink Up Buttercup. Fresh off a signing to Kanine Records (Grizzly Bear) the Philly-foursome plan to release their U.S. debut 7"April 7th. Here's what the label had to say:

"Born in a Buck’s County barn on a frigid winter night, Drink Up Buttercup has gained an international following in only one year’s time. After being kicked out of their practice space for disturbing the horses, Drink Up was soon besieged with praise in publications like Philadelphia Weekly, and in blogs such as Almack’s Dance Hall, Ear Farm, and The Music Slut. With residency offers in both Philadelphia and New York City, followed by a year’s worth of shows along the East Coast, Drink Up’s sound has attracted interest from across the pond when they released their UK first single, Mr Pie Eyes / Gods &Gentlemen" (Make Mine).

Throughout most of Drink Up Buttercup’s reviews runs a common thread of excitement and appreciation for the band’s ability to put on a performance, rather than simply a musical showcase, with constant comparisons that parallel the spectacle of a circus, the buzz of abar-room sing along, and the comfort of a nursery rhyme."

Also, I dug up an old Q&A we did with the guys back in January 2008.

Grammy Bowl III

It's that time of year again for me to kick my buddy Adam's, AKA BoBizzy's, ass on Grammy picks. Truth be told, I haven't really kicked his ass in past years, but I'm winning and that's what counts. Two years ago we picked EVERY SINGLE CATEGORY. Something like 130 categories and we tied. A TIE!?! Are you kidding me? I thought my win for Best Instrumental Composition would put me over the top, but he countered with nabbing Best Classical Surround Sound album.
So last year we narrowed things down a bit and picked 32 categories. And although I won, I'll be the first to admit I had an off year. I only got 14 correct (enough to beat Adam's 11). There's a certain science to picking Grammy winners. 90% of the time it's never who you want to win. So pick your favorite artist in the category and throw them out of the running. The people picking the actual winners of these awards are dinosaurs in the recording industry and have a pulse the strength of Mick Mars on what's going on in the world today. They still have it ingrained in their heads that the entire developed world goes absolutely ape-shit for any album that Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, or U2 put out within the last year. Note to anyone picking the Grammy's this year (or any year for that matter), if you see these above names in ANY category pick them and thank me later.

Another rule to live by: Album of the Year NEVER goes to the favorite. Its like they want to end the show on some surprise twist like the end of a Lost episode. Think about Herbie Hancock winning two years ago. WTF?!?! Jaws around the world hit the floor and I expected to see John Locke spring up from the crowd and put a bullet in Herbie with a satisfied look on his face.

ANYWAY....here are our picks. As you can see, I've broken some of my own rules and don't have very high hopes for keeping my undefeated streak alive. Damn picking with your heart at times!

Drop Some Funky White Moves Tonight

That Timid Tiger remix struck a chord and got me in the remix mood for the night, so here are a few more....enjoy

Everlong (DiscoTech Remix) - Foo Fighters

Hot N Cold (LMFAO Remix) - Katy Perry

To Lose My Life (Filthy Dukes remix) - White Lies

The Whipping Post....where Santogold is actually from Philly, sorry Brooklyn.

Timid Tiger Remix

So by now, everyone knows Timid Tiger by their cover of Britney's "Womanizer". Timid Tiger's name has been spreading quickly, and rightfully so. I grabbed this new remix of "Are You Gonna Go My Way" earlier from Pretty Much Amazing and I can't stop listening. Definitely counting down the days until their EP is officially released. Apparently in collaboration with PMA?? I want to know more....

Are You Gonna My Way (Remix ft. Lenny Kravitz, Ludacris & The Notorious B.I.G). - Timid Tiger

Hopefully I'll get to post about these guys in more detail very soon.
