Drink Up Buttercup + Kanine = Boner Alert at the Whipping Post

I've been pimping the name Drink Up Buttercup since I first caught the band live in summer '07. Back in the old Jukebox posts about these guys (and there were a lot), I never had a bad thing to say. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon after they played CMJ '08 and it sounds like they finally have the producer to take them to the next level. Like Super Furry Animals? Animal Collective? You'll LOVE Drink Up Buttercup. Fresh off a signing to Kanine Records (Grizzly Bear) the Philly-foursome plan to release their U.S. debut 7"April 7th. Here's what the label had to say:

"Born in a Buck’s County barn on a frigid winter night, Drink Up Buttercup has gained an international following in only one year’s time. After being kicked out of their practice space for disturbing the horses, Drink Up was soon besieged with praise in publications like Philadelphia Weekly, and in blogs such as Almack’s Dance Hall, Ear Farm, and The Music Slut. With residency offers in both Philadelphia and New York City, followed by a year’s worth of shows along the East Coast, Drink Up’s sound has attracted interest from across the pond when they released their UK first single, Mr Pie Eyes / Gods &Gentlemen" (Make Mine).

Throughout most of Drink Up Buttercup’s reviews runs a common thread of excitement and appreciation for the band’s ability to put on a performance, rather than simply a musical showcase, with constant comparisons that parallel the spectacle of a circus, the buzz of abar-room sing along, and the comfort of a nursery rhyme."

Also, I dug up an old Q&A we did with the guys back in January 2008.

The Whipping Post- Toasting up a PBR and saying congratulations DUB!
