Ever have one of those weeks when you start rethinking your choices in life and wonder how you go to where you are now? That's my life every week. At least the weather is starting to cooperate. I witnessed my first mini skirt of the season on Tuesday, so things will surely be looking up from here on out. Let's take a look at the best of what Philly has to offer us this weekend.

Who's NOT playing a show this Friday? You have no excuse to stay inside tonight as there are so many shows to list, but I'll try to cut it down. Drink Up Buttercup headlines the Khyber, playing with Modern Skirts ( who i raved about previously) and Jukebox The Ghost at 9pm. Or go forth at get emo with your punk self at The Troc with Emery , Mayday Parade, and As Cities Burn. Two hooterific shows at two great venues, but I'm not even close to done for Friday. Current blog favorite Lightspeed Champion is playing upstairs at WCL and I'll be front and center with my friend Amstel, Miller will also be joining me later on, but he only likes to come around when I'm low on cash. Show's at 8pm and its FREE BITCHES. Still confused on where to walk your two cute feet tonight? Go see The Medium at North Star for some cookie cutter "my girlfriend loves this band" music. And for you hip hop headz, superman over to Rotunda and check out Reef The Lost Cauze. Check out his Gym Class Heroes remix on myspace.

Wow I'm already tired from all this Friday music, but Saturday is upon us and calling our names. Alright, Junior invites you to pull a double-dip session and head back out to The Khyber on Saturday at 9pm. Cheers Elephant says come to the venue with the worst setup in the world, The Fire. Or check out the band with just enough 60's retro rock to keep you dancing the jitterbug all night, Pink Spiders.

You know what Sunday's are good for. Mimosas and hangovers. Change your clock forward this weekend. I'll sex ya later.

Did you say jazzercise tonight? This Friday is made for you to sip that Chardonnay, tap those toes, and get lost in the wonderful world of jazz music. My FAVORITE philly female solo artist, Carsie Blanton, is performing tonight at Tin Angel. She's a little less jazz, a little more folk, but are you honestly going to complain with a voice like that? Just listen to "Money In The Bank" then tell me you're not going to go. Or if you find yourself on the other end of the city tonight, check out some true jazz in MJ Project, downstairs at WCL with Philadelphia Slick. We know you know who they are. Finally, end your Friday night the same way I always do and get down on some $3 Beam and Pabst, while enjoying funky live jazz renditions of Gnarls Barkley and other mainstream favorites.



Keeping things just as mellow on Saturday, venture back to WCL this time upstairs, and listen to your mom's favorite rock band Fooling April. Like The Frey? Like Teddy Geiger? Me neither, but if you do, you'll love this band. Adult contemporary commercial appeal to the fullest. You can also hear the guys on the Radio 104.5 takeover at 5pm TONIGHT. You're more likely to spot me at The Khyber on Saturday gettin' tipsy and watching The Sunshine Recorder and Gildon Works take over the stage.



You already know what Sundays are good for....mimosas and hangovers.

I've been holed up in my apartment for the last 5 days in the fetal position, shocked over what took place last Sunday night. This week was a foggy haze of disbelief. Phone calls and text messages asking, "how does 18-1 feel?" and "Eli is God," forced me into acceptance. I'm still a little shaky about venturing out into the wild this weekend; with the fear of becoming violent with more celebratory Giants fans or punishing myself by drinking until I fall onto the bar in a puddle of my own tears. Nonetheless, I'm going to try braving the elements. Here's the best of what's out there.

Friday: Alright Junior is headlining The Fire. Three other bands on the bill, so check out mucho musicas on the cheap. 9p.m.

Join yours truely at North Star Bar and watch The Major Leagues light up the stage. Brown Recluse Sings will also be gracing us with their presence. Show starts at 9p.m. $8.

Saturday: Ummmm...why wouldn't you be at the White Williams all-night dance craze at Johnny Brenda's? I'll be there mingling and jingling. $10.


Sunday: First Unitarian plays host to Liars. I smell a comeback for these guys. $10.

Let's be honest here. You're going to be way to busy to go to shows this weekend. A little american institution we like to call the Super Bowl is peeking around the corner and you still need to:

1.) Hit Rent-A-Center for that 50'' HDTV.
2.) Set Up shoddy stadium seating in your 12X12 living room, much to the shagrin of your all-to-understanding girlfriend.
3.)Buy a keg of Pabst, Beast, or Natty Light (whatever's on sale).
4.) Set things straight with your bookie and asure him that after you win your Super Bowl bet, everything between you two will be ok and the whole season's mess will be cleaned up.
5.) Spend all of Saturday memorizing random, unimportant statistics that will make you seem smart in front of all your friends on Sunday.
6.) Hit the grocery store at sprint speed to get chips, salsa, clam dip, little weiners with that tasty sauce, and those little scallops wrapped in bacon.
7.) Call all the Giants fans you know and invite them to your shindig, just to see the look on their faces when the clock hits 00:00 and Patriots superiority reigns triumphant.
8.) Call every Eagles fan you know, laugh hysterically, hang up.

Saturday: Crooked Looks headlines The Khyber, but get there early to see East hundred. 9p.m. $8.

Sunday: If it wasn't Super Bowl Sunday, I'd be first in line to see Dan Deacon at First Unitarian. I'm always up for a sweaty dance party, just not this day. 7:30p.m. $10-$12

FRIDAY:
The Cobbs play North Star tonight with Jotto, Papertrigger, and Greyhounds. 9p.m. $8.
DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist spin to a sold out crowd at The TLA. 9p.m.

SATURDAY:
Super Furry Animals and Holy Fuck take over Starlight Ballroom at 7:30p.m. $16.
Hit the Bodog Battle of the Bands where bands play for a chance to win a $1,000,000 recording contract with Bodog Music. How do they have$1,000,000 to put up when their flagship artist is DMX?

SUNDAY:
Designated hangover day. Spend your morning/early afternoon sippin' mimosas at Devil's Alley, then plop on the couch and watch that Freaks and Geeks marathon you've been planning.

So we know you weren't able to score those tickets to the Editors, Hot Hot Heat, and Louis XIV at the Electric Factory tonight, so we came up with our best picks of what's out there this weekend.

Friday: The Teeth with Gildon Works and Future Tips. 9p.m. at Johnny Brenda's.

Saturday: The Medium finally emerge from the studio to show us what they've been working on in recent months when they play The Fire with Smyth & the New Domesticks. 9p.m.

Maybe you feel like getting in touch with your classic rock self this weekend. If so, check out Paul Green School of Rock's Tribute to the Beatles for $10 out in Feasterville, Jerz on Friday. Then on Saturday, hop on over to the Keswick and check out Satisfaction: A Rolling Stones Experience. EMI will surely be there scouting the talent since they've lost the real Stones.
