Wow. Who else want's to get silly? I'm in. I have posted many times, on this site, about Soulja Boy being the symbol for all that is wrong in music (Not even just Hip-Hop). I saw an interview with him the other day that went like this.....

Interviewer: What rappers influenced you growing up?

Soulja Boy: 50 Cent.

50 Cent?!!?! He's only been out for 3 minutes longer than you have, Soulja! Damn. He can't even think of one old school cat to give props to and seem like he knows his hip-hop history. You know whats sad, to Soulja Boy 50 Cent is old school. He is only like 17 years old!

Fun Soulja Boy fact: He failed 9th grade twice and then dropped out of high school.

The only thing I can think of are the "suits" who hear this song and go "Awesome", "I smell money!", and "Yahtzee!". Who hears this song and thinks its good? Why are labels putting out this music? I didnt want to blow everyones mind but I know who ruined music. Its not the internet, Myspace,Napster, or anything else people tell you.

Major music labels killed music. They are the ones who don't develop talent, put out garbage no talent acts, and only care about money. You know why people look back at the 60's and 70's as the peak for music? Because everyone cared about music. It stood for something (More than just money) It was a soundtrack, movement, belief......Maybe it was a simplier time? Maybe i'm romanticizing.

A sub-killer of music: the 80's. Yes. It's true. What good music has come after the 80's? Don't worry, I'll wait.

Soulja Boy: Young MC 2008 edition

I was going to put this item in "Around the Way News" but I felt like it deserved a little more spotlight. In an interview Soulja Boy said:

"Soulja Boy was more candid when asked how he ranks specifically against alumni of the first Hottest MCs list, like Weezy, 'Ye and Jay-Z.

"Right now, yes [I'm hotter than them]," he answered as their names were read to him one by one."

Really? You are better than Jay-Z and Kanye West? Upon some research I found this quote from Young MC in 1989:

"Yea right now I'm the top dog. You cant go anywhere without hearing Bust-A-Move. LL Cool J? Whose that? I'm Young MC! I'm gonna be here forever!"

So, Soulja Boy, maybe you should think before you speak. On a good note, I heard Skee-Lo wanted to grab dinner with you some time.

R.I.P. Hip Hop

I am constantly saddened by the state of Rap/Hip-Hop (I use the slash because i don't know the real difference. Is it that girls can only like hip-hop and not rap? Are the two terms interchangable? Maybe there isnt a difference and the two terms are just to confuse white people). There are a handful of good and great rappers still out there, but all of the "pop" stuff is perplexing. I understand that some songs are huge in clubs and on the dance floor, but bad is still bad. I rate the respect I give to an artist based on my beilief that i could do what they do.

Can I make beats and rap like Kanye? No. Can I rap as well as Nas? No. That is why i give them all the respect in the world. Can I rap better than Soulja Boy? Yea. Im almost positive I can rap better than him. Is he even rapping? He has no delivery, no style to his flow.

Maybe i'm getting older, maybe the music is getting worse.

Any way, here is his new song that caused me to write this diatribe.
